I didn't pay for my tags on time in november 2007. So i didn,t drive it. every once in awhile i would start it but soon it ran all the way out of gas. I know smart right. So know at the time it was january I changed the oil pan gasket ,put some gas in it ,the batt is dead so i charge. Start it and it starts shacking. So now i go to the auto parts store and get spark plugs and cap and rotor put it all together .Now it's time to start my car and it runs fine Turn it of check my work start it again then here comes the smoke. When i first start it nothing when i push and the gas it starts to flow. I take it out for a drive and after awhile it will stop smoking. first find out where the smoke is coming from (spilled oil on the exhaust will burn off) but if there is a major leak you may have to re do the gaskets again

most likely the intake valve seals are cooked .. its an old car you know
the oil sips past the seals into the combustion chamber and you get the white smoke
I take it the smoke is white , cause if it's black... that is unburned fuel and it would be stinging your eyes

By getting another car! I know it harsh but even if it a $500 car, you will probably be better off, you are going to spend more than that on this pile just guessing at whats wrong. But really it could be that the crank case isn't getting airflow

Well, you didn't. What happened is the oil seals on the valve seats have gotten old and begun to wear and shrink. When the engine is shut down and is cooled off the oil drips into the cylinders. When started, it burns off the oil and leaks in a little more. As the engine heats up, the seals close, the oil leakage stops, and the smoke goes away.
This is not a life or death problem and the engine will continue to run (if that all it is). The problem may reduce some with normal operation (or not). There is a product sold at most auto parts stores called %26quot;engine restore%26quot; it's made by Bardall, comes in a silver can with black letters. Get some, use it. You will be happy again. easy hillbilly fix . for a full tank of gas add a half of a moth ball to your tank . half a tank 3/4 of moth ball . and if you have a throttle body carb remove the filter start the engine and give the throttle a pull as you pour a gallon of white vinegar down the carb then drive it aroundMy 88 Cadillac is now smoking how do i stop it?
possibly the rings if it is oil smoke ( you can tell by smelling it) if it's gas or water smoke could be a sensor (if smoke smells like gas) or if it smells like anti - freeze (sweet smell) possibly head or gasket.My 88 Cadillac is now smoking how do i stop it?
It might have froze and caused a leak in the head gasket. Or when you replaced the oil pan gasket it leaked and caused it to over heat that will make it smoke.
